Obama names U.S. envoy to Islamic Conference
|
By: Scott Wilson
Washington Post* - President Obama announced Saturday the appointment of Rashad Hussain, a White House lawyer, to be his special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Obama made the announcement in a video conference to the U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar. In his message, Obama called Hussain "an accomplished lawyer and a close and trusted member of my White House staff," who would strengthen his policy of outreach to the world's Muslims. Obama has made repairing U.S. relations with the Islamic world an important element of his foreign policy, an effort highlighted by his call for a "new beginning" in a speech in Cairo last June. In the statement Saturday, Obama said Hussain has "played a key role in developing the partnerships I called for in Cairo," and would continue to do so in his new position. Obama noted that Hussain is a Hafiz of the Koran, someone who has memorized the holy Islamic text. The Organization of the Islamic Conference comprises 57 nations with a goal of promoting Muslim unity. As a deputy associate counsel to Obama, Hussain has worked on national security, new media, and science and technology issues, according to a White House statement. He previously worked as a trial attorney for the Justice Department and as a legislative assistant on the House Judiciary Committee. Hussain attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his law degree from Yale Law School. He holds master's degrees in public administration and Arabic and Islamic studies from Harvard University. |

Dr.Lij ('prince') Asfa-Wossen Asserate at EMIDJ Paltalk room
Asfa-Wossen Asserate (born October 31, 1948 in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia), is a management consultant and an author writing in German. He is a grandnephew of the last Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie and a son of the former governor and viceroy of Eritrea, Li'ul Ras Asserate Kasa (Asserate-Maryam Kasa).
Lij ('prince')
Asfa-Wossen went to a German school in Addis Abeba, before studying law, economics and history in Tübingen and Cambridge. In 1978, he earned a PhD in Ethiopian history in Frankfurt am Main. In 1974 a Communist revolution in Ethiopia made impossible his return to his homeland: his father and sixty other dignitaries of the Haile Selassie regime were executed without a trial. The Asserate family was held under house arrest for years without knowing when and if they would be released. Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate who learned of the fate of his father over the radio has been living in Germany ever since and became a German national in 1981.
Since 1983, he has been working as a management consultant and author. He dedicated much of his energies campaigning against the Communist dictatorship in Ethiopia, and above all, he pulled all diplomatic strings to help his incarcerated family. After the fall of the Communist Mengistu regime in 1991 he has been striving to improve the foreign trade relations of his native country. Furthermore, he has been committed to human rights. In 1994 he founded „Orbis Aethiopicus“, a society that holds scientific congresses with a focus on Ethiopian culture, history and other matters.

CBS News Investigates Serious Questions about the Legitimacy of Some Ethopian Adoptions
(CBS) Videotapes showing poor orphans from third world countries melt the hearts of prospective parents every day in this country.
Three children, sisters from Ethiopia are shown in a video - ages, you are told, 7, 4 and 6. Their mother is dead, their father dying of AIDS. A life of prostitution is all but assured - if not adopted - saved - by a loving American family. It was just such a pitch that spoke to Katie and Calvin Bradshaw, reports CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian. They adopted all three girls through a U.S. agency, Christian World Adoption.
"Aside from the gender of the children, everything else proved to be a complete lie," said Katie. While their mother was dead, their father was healthy and very much alive. He was living, by local standards, a middle-class life - an extended family able to take care of the girls as middle sister Meya showed us first hand.
"My godmothers, my aunt, those are my mom's friends, my uncles, my dad, my dad's friends, that's my brother," she said. Read full story

Celebrating Valentine’s Day
(Islam Question & Answer) Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his family and companions.
Allaah has chosen for us Islam as our religion and He will not accept any other religion from anyone, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that groups of his ummah would follow the enemies of Allaah in some of their rituals and customs, as it says in the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him), who narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span, cubit by cubit, until even if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” We said, “O Messenger of Allaah, (do you mean) the Jews and Christians?” He said, “Who else?!”...Read More

Airport screening for 'Flying while Muslim'
By Nafees Syed, Special to CNN, February 3, 2010 12:45 p.m. ESTCNN) -- It seems that now someone called "Barack Hussein Obama" can be pulled aside and patted down merely because of his name. But while our president has the benefit of Air Force One, millions of us with a "funny name" (Muslim and otherwise) do not. Like me.
Healthy, Dead & Sick Heart
On the Day of Resurrection, only those who come to God with a healthy heart will be saved. God says: "The Day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to God a sound heart." [Quran 26:88-89]
In defining the healthy heart, the following has been said: "It is a heart cleansed from any passion that challenges what God commands, or disputes what He forbids. It is free from any impulses which contradict His good. As a result, it is safeguarded against the worship of anything other than Him, and seeks the judgment of no other except that of His Messenger . Its services are exclusively reserved for God, willingly and lovingly, with total reliance, relating all matters to Him, in fear, hope, and sincere dedication. When it loves, its love is in the way of God. If it detests, it detests in the light of what He detests. When it gives, it gives for God. If it withholds , it withholds for God. Nevertheless, all this will not suffice for its salvation until it is free from following, or taking as its guide, anyone other than His Messenger . A servant with a healthy heart must dedicate it to its journeys end and not base his actions and speech on those of any other person except God's Messenger . He must not give any precedence to any other faith, words or deeds over those of God and His Messenger. God says:
